Questions for interview:

  1. Describe the origins of Wikia Search.
  2. Discuss the organizational principles behind Wikia Search (Transparency, Community, Quality, Privacy)
  3. Wikia is a VC-funded corporation. How do your investors expect to make a return on a free software service?
  4. How has the experience with Wikia and Wikipedia influenced the design of Wikia Search?
  5. It would probably be fair to say that we live in the Google Era of the Internet, and Google's key service is search. Why do you think you can challenge this segment leader when others have not been able to?
  6. Is Wikia Search an Open Software Service per the OSSD? Could it be?
  7. One interesting aspect of Wikia is the distributed nature of the web crawling (using the Grub client). Could you describe this?
  8. What future is there for a meta-distributed service -- having other search services like Wikia Search that work together in a federated "mesh"?
  9. Do you know of any downstream users of Wikia Search data?
  10. Are you happy with the development of the project? Where do you see it going in the next couple of years?
  11. Explain the new Applications feature.
